Problem:

Let’s F***ing Joe, a popular decentralized exchange, could only report cyber threats after they had already led to user losses, highlighting a reactive approach to a problem that demanded proactive measures. This issue hit a peak when a surge in fraudulent Google Ads resulted in the platform being blacklisted across multiple ISPs, a problem that took days to resolve.

Solution:

Let’s F***ing Joe partnered with Doppel to establish a proactive takedown strategy aimed at preventing the proliferation of fake social accounts and malicious domains that threatened user safety.

The Story:

One morning, the Let’s F***ing Joe team woke up to find that thousands of users worldwide were unable to access the platform, with no clear indication of what was causing the issue.

It turned out that the official domain for the decentralized exchange had been blacklisted by multiple internet service providers (ISPs) globally. This was due to a large number of false positive reports stemming from a massive wave of fake Google ads impersonating the Let’s F***ing Joe domain and brand. These fake ads led to reports being sent to various third-party online security providers, which promptly blacklisted domains, including the official one.

"That was the catalyst event that led us to start searching for a proactive means of brand and domain protection. We realized this was actually a significant problem that was catching a lot of users off guard. We had no visibility on the scale of the issue until this specific event had unfolded,” said Blue, CMO at Let’s F***ing Joe.

Prior to onboarding with Doppel, Let’s F***ing Joe didn’t have the resources to dedicate manpower towards proactive takedowns of malvertising and social media impersonation accounts, which, for web3 marketing, are mostly on X. The Let’s F***ing Joe team would only receive reports from the community after attacks had occurred.

“Unfortunately, the way blockchain works, there’s no recovering assets once a user has lost them,” Blue said. “The only thing we could do in situations where users were being phished was to react to the reports and attempt to take down these malicious sites or accounts to hopefully protect the next group of users potentially stumbling upon them.”

Now, with Doppel, attack detection and takedowns are fully automated. In the first six weeks of using Doppel’s domain and social media protection services, Let’s F***ing Joe detected and took down 50 fake domains and 59 impersonation accounts on social media. During this time, no Let’s F***ing Joe support tickets were opened by users, Blue said.

“You can’t put a price on that,” Blue added. Utilizing Doppel's services has allowed the Let’s F***ing Joe team to remain fully focused on the platform’s product roadmap and building the company’s web3 influence, without having to divert internal resources towards reacting to these malicious attacks.

“For many of our users, the Let’s F***ing Joe experience is their home away from home. Web3 is daunting to many, but everyone should always feel 100% safe and welcome on the Let’s F***ing Joe platform and in the Let’s F***ing Joe community,” Blue said. “User safety is not just a key part of our product strategy but a fundamental aspect of our brand.”

With Doppel, Let’s F***ing Joe is confident in delivering a market-leading approach that prioritizes proactive user safety, ensuring that every online path leading to the Let’s F***ing Joe platform is monitored and protected.
